Competence Management in R&D Process for Lean Execution

Miha Bobic is a Senior Director of R&D for Danfoss District energy division. He is responsible for research and development of (among others) mechatronic and electronic controllers, heat exchangers, monitoring SW and district heating substations over several locations in EU, Russia, and China. This year, Miha celebrates his 20 years of working in Danfoss, most of which, he was actively either engaged or steering the continuous improvement of Danfoss’s innovation processes and systems.

In his presentation, Miha covered the innovation philosophy they follow at Danfoss, where knowledge, planning, and resources are key priorities. From the process viewpoint, they split new product creation into three blocks: Front-end with the focus on ideation and products selection, and Execution and Launch that run hand in hand. This is where special execution engine runs to prevent deflections from the timelines. After the introduction, Miha dived into the planning and mapping of competences needed for the future as well as identification of the competence gaps. To conclude his presentation, Miha also provided insights into the cornerstone of Danfoss entire system; the knowledge, how it is creation, conserved, developed and deployed within Danfoss R&D.
